| Summary Purpose The SCCLA Scholarship Fund is a tax-exempt non-profit organization which awards scholarships of $1000 each to law students based on academic merit, financial need and demonstrated commitment to serving Asian American communities. Scholarships are bestowed in honor of former SCCLA members and long-time Chinese American leaders: the late George S. Lee, Lee Gum Low, and Ming Y. Moy. The Ming Y. Moy Memorial Scholarship is endowed by the Moy family. The Lee Gum Low Presidential Scholarship is endowed by Ron and Wanda Low and awarded to a law student demonstrating leadership ability and service to the community. The fund also awards a scholarship in honor of Judge Elwood Lui, a partner of the law firm of Jones Day. A graduate of UCLA (B.S., M.B.A., J.D.), Justice Lui began his career as Deputy Attorney General for the State of California. He served as a judge of both the Los Angeles Municipal Court and Superior Court and further served as Justice in the California Court of Appeals. The Justice Elwood Lui Scholarship is endowed by the law firm of Jones Day. In addition, the fund awards scholarships in honor of Margaret and Ned Good, who have generously provided support for a full five scholarships for this year's as well as future recipients. The Goods were motivated to support the fund because throughout the years of practicing law, their clients having taught them to value and cherish life. Through their scholarships, the Goods hope that all aspiring lawyers will remember that every client is important and that the clients are at the heart of the legal profession. This will be the fourth year that Dr. Henry Kan is sponsoring a scholarship. His goal is to promote networking between SCCLA attorneys and other professionals. Dr. Kan is a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine and is currently director of the Cardinal Paul Yu-Pin Memorial Foundation. Dr. Kan is also the Rehabilitation Director for the Cardinal Paul Yu-Pin Memorial Service Care Center. Once again A-United Attorney Service is demonstrating its commitment to the legal community through its sponsorship of a scholarship for a second straight year. A-United provides attorney services and support to law firms of all sizes. The Frank and Virginia Lu Scholarship is awarded to a law student demonstrating commitment to the public interest through community service. This year, SCCLA is proud to announce its second scholarship sponsored by the Loyola Law School alumni from the Class of 1996 APALSA group to encourage community involvement and leadership advancement. The Loyola ’96 APALSA Alumni Scholarship is endowed by Craig Osaki, Jun Tolentino, Kevin Leung, Pat Hattori and Will Niu, who were all officers and active members of the APALSA group at Loyola Law School. The Laurence W. Ritter Memorial Scholarship. Laurence W. Ritter (beloved California attorney who practiced for 51 years, devoted husband of Gladys Ritter to whom he was married for 56 years, and proud father of Nancy Ritter and SCCLA board member, Adam Ritter) passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations were made to SCCLA's scholarship foundation in order to create the Laurence W. Ritter Memorial Scholarship to support the education of a deserving law student, as the final mitzvah (good deed) in a lifetime of so many. SCCLA also wishes to thank Doculogic, Inc., which has made a generous contribution as well as pledging five percent of its earnings from work originating from SCCLA members towards the SCCLA general scholarship fund. SCCLA also sponsors three fellowships at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center in Los Angeles. These fellowships of $1,500 each honor the following: the late Y.C. Hong, the first Chinese American admitted to practice law in California and the first to practice in Los Angeles; Albert C.
